Introduction to This Document
Purpose
The purpose of this document is to describe the System Specification for the Secure Access Control (SAC) subsystem of the EATS infrastructure. The SAC subsystem is responsible for the implementation of an uniform privacy and security policy within EATS. The policy application relates to both how security concerns are addressed in both inward (sign in, data quality edits, etc.) and outward (sucure communications using public, restricted and varying degrees of confidential documents) focused interactions. The policy is universal and transparent. Components are designed as secure units, originally wholly owned and managed by their creator. Until used in a shared arrangement, all content has the following rule: it's private, and under the exclusive control of the author.
The objective of the system, to the extent practical, is to honor that policy. Portions of the system, once auding is initiated, which can be identified as suspect in horing that policy, or identified as areas where the policy objectives can be improved, are identified on system audit reports. The logic and rationale for the current implementation is able to be examined by use of routine tracing and diagnostic tools.
